Researchers sought to examine the effect of various types of music on agitation levels in patients who are in the early stage of Alzheimer's disease. Patients were selected to participate in the study based on their stage of Alzheimer's disease. Three forms of music were tested: Easy listening, Mozart, and Lady Gaga. While listening to music, agitation levels were recorded for the patients with a high score indicating a higher level of agitation. Scores are recorded below.
Mozart Easy Listening Lady Gaga
9 29 13
12 26 22
10 30 11
5 24 17
9 26 20
13 22 8
20 29 7
15 11 18
12 16 10
8 24 4
To test the difference in the agitation levels between the various types of music, we have to use one-way ANOVA.
Go to Vassarstats -> Choose one-way ANOVA
Number of samples = 3
The samples are independent. Setup your data as follows:
The output is:
The F-critical value at df = 2,27 and alpha=0.05 is: 3.354
The F-value = 15.02 > 3.354, we reject the null hypothesis.
We conclude that there is a significant difference in the agitation levels in patients who are in the early stage of Alzheimer's disease between various types of music.
