Of all the infectious diseases that affect humans, which one would you rank as the highest priority for eradication? What factors influence your preference? What would be required to actually eradicate your selected infectious disease?

Even though there are many infectious disease that affect human life, i think the most priority for eradication should be given to Zika Virus as it had its recent outbreak in India on May 2017 which was fatal. This was first found in Uganda in 1947 in monkeys and later in humans by 1952. The outbreaks of Zika virus disease was reported not only in India but also in America, Island of Yap, Brazil and the Pacific. Hence, i consider it as the the most infectious diseases to be eradicated .

The factors that influence my preference are :

• It does not have any signs and symptoms during the incubation period ( which last for only few days).
• It cause congenital abnormality and microcephaly to newborn and fetus. it may also lead to preterm birth, still birth and fetal loss.
• It triggers Guillain - Barre Syndrome, neuropathy, myelitis in adult and older children.
• Mosquito are the main mode of transmission.
• the main reason is that it spread within 24 hours.

Requirements for eradication:

• Mosquito control
• Proper education and guidelines to the public
