Explain the role of oxytocin in male and female sexual response and interpersonal relationships. Be sure to include in your response (a) what oxytocin is and (b) where it is produced in the human body, as well as (c) it’s role in male and female sexual response and interpersonal connection.
Oxytocin increases the force,frequency and duration of uterine contractions.It is a hormone secreted by neurosecretory cells in the paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei of the hypothalamus that stimulates contraction of the smooth muscle fibres in pregnant uterus and contractile cells around the ducts of mammary glands.During delivery it enhances contraction of smooth muscle cells in the wall uterus.After delivery it stimulates milk ejection from the mammary glands in response to the mechanical stimulus provided by a suckling infant.It induce or augments labour and promotea milk letdown and facilitates breast feeding.When compared to females ,in males the function of oxtocin is not clear and it is essential role in moving sperm.
Oxytocin plays important role in close connection with other neurotansmitter networks .It helps helps to overcome from stress and regulates emotional and behavoural patterns.
