CLEFT PALATE:

• Cleft palate is the type of birth defects in which a new born baby's mouth or lips do not form properly during pregnancy.

• Cleft palate is the most common birth defects which associated in many inherited genetic conditions or syndromes.

SYMPTOMS:

• Cleft palate mays appear as a split in the palate which affects both sides of the face of a new born baby.
• Main symptoms are diificulty with feeding.
• Chronic ear infections
• Difficulty swallowing.

CAUSES:

• Cleft palate mainly occurs when A new born baby's mouth and face do not fuse properly.
• According as many reaserach it is found that cleft palate occurs generally in environmental factors and genetic disorders.

FACTORS:

• Having diabetis:The pregnent women who have diabetis, may have an increase risk of having a baby with a cleft palate.
• Obese during pregnany:Baby born to obese women having high risk of cleft palate and cleft lift.
• Smoking:There are some evidence that the pregnent women who smoke ciggarettes having high risk of baby's with cleft palate.

PREVENTION:

• Avoid use of tobacco or alcohol
• Prenatal vitamins should be taken
• Genetic counseling should be consider

FEEDING

• Having cleft palate, it is very diificult for a new born baby to suck or feed.
• Only an occupational therapist can suggest parents how to make the feeding process easier.

DENTAL PROBLEMS

• Cleft palate affects the child teeth very much in which the child may have extra teeth or small teeth.
• Tooth development affected, if the cleft extends to the uppergum.

SPEECH PROBLEMS

• As the palate is used in forming sound ,the cleft palate may affects the development of normal speech of a child.
• So after the cleft palate is repaired, there should be needs a speech therapy.

EAR INFECTIONS

• Cleft palate also affect the middle ear of new born baby's.
• Fluid can buid up in the middle ear by cleft palate which cause temporary hearing loss.
