Mutation rate are high in mRNA Compare to DNA but in RNA
mutation does not have greater consequences compare to DNA mutation
because
- mRNA have short life once protein is form it get degraded thus
not affect as much compare to DNA which is genetic material.
- The mutation in mRNA if usually occur in higher frequency in
intron which is spliced off and does not play role in mature mRNA
formation so protein translated from mature mRNA is not
affected.
- Even in exon if mutation in case synonymous mutation the
degeneracy of codon play crucial role where many codon code for
same Amino acid so doesn't effect the protein structure and
function while in case of non synonymous mutation where the codon
change lead to non function protein formation is degraded through
Proteosoma degradation.
From above all we can conclude the mRNA mutation do not have
greater impact but DNA which is a genetic material and blue print
for the cell function and survival get mutated lead to defect in
cell and disease in an organism
