Six Sigma is a quality-control program developed in 1986 by Motorola which focuses on cycle-time improvement and the reduction of manufacturing defects to almost none. The standard number of defects allowed is 3.4 in a million. As of today, Six Sigma has evolved and widened into general business-management philosophy focused on meeting customer requirements and improving customer relation while sustaining business products and services. Six Sigma is applicable to all industries, and these days a number of successful companies offer six sigma training and certification.

Five steps are followed in six sigma popularly known as DMAIC and this is a statistics based methodology. For a burger franchise, the DMAIC will be applied as follows:

1. Define:

Define the inefficiencies in your franchise. Address customer complaints and know their requirements. Avoid taking wrong orders.

2. Measure:

Improve sales figure by higher customer satisfaction. Serve adequate quantities. Keep your prices pocket friendly. Be at your best behavior with customers even when if get impatient.

3. Analyse:

What uniqueness you can offer that other restaurants can't. Invest in those recipes by hiring the expert chefs. Also, keep reinventing old recipes by add ons. You can also research receipes that are age old and believed to be super delicious and ask your chef to incorporate it into burger recipes.

4. Improve:

Find a way to serve them faster. Improve serving time and order processing time by hiring required number of staffs. Work on the negative feedback provided by customers and make sure that fuutre probability of such events decrease.

5. Control:

Proper management and control is the key to corporial success. Make sure that your restaurant staff follow discipline. Also work on keeping your staffs happy. A content workforce and deliver a par above performance. So invest in their motivation.
