Managing Care in a Culturally Considerate Manner Patient Profile R.M., a 68-year-old male from Fiji, came into the emergency department with complaints of increased headache, dizziness, and blurred vision. His blood pressure in the emergency room was 201/120. He received IV labetalol (Normodyne) and IV furosemide (Lasix) and was admitted to the cardiac unit for observation.
1. Cultural assessment = for cultural assessment I would like to collect some information about his - nationality,
- sociochonomic status of family, type of family, reflation between family members, relation with neighbours,
Lifestyle = daily physical activity like as what type of activities done, duration activities etc.
Type if food takes = generally in Fiji people are consumes coconut oil, grilled food, fried food, more spices these type of food cause Hypercholesteromea, atherosclerosis, deep vain thrombosis etc.
Take history about his daily breakfast, lunch, snaks, dinner. How many times in a day he takes food.
How much time in a day he takes rest.
History of smoking and alcoholism has to take.
2. I would ask him that what food u takes daily is that prepaid with garlic. Garlic releases nitric oxide into blood vessels which increases elasticity of blood vessels. These cause reduce the blood cholesterol level and reduce the hypertension upto 10 to 12% . About 600 to 900 mg of garlic should be take with food.
3. i) Established verbal content with them = I would gentelly talk with the family members. I tell them that Mr. R. M.'s condition of stable right now. There no cause of anxiety. His blood pressure is severly increased so these condition is arisr. I administered medication that will lower his blood pressure. The other laboratory reports are require for farther diagnosis and more appropriate information. Farther treatment will perform according to the lab. reports.
ii) Listen closely to them and give all appropriate answers of all questions. I will give them answer clearly and simple language.
iii) I shall maintain a respect, rapport and personal distancing.
4. I will clearly describe him all terms and conditions of hospital system. It is against the hospital rules to meet the client all family members together. It causes hamper to the medical personnels to treat the client and also cause problems to the other patients. So, 1 of you at a time can meet the client. And at visiting time other 2 members can meet the client.
I shall also tell him that I am his nurse this time he can tell me about any problem I shall shere the message to the family members.
