1.A full assessment including an appraisal of current
medical,psychological,and social problems.It also includes
ascertaining whether alcoholism is the primary or secondary
problem.Alcohol is sometimes used to releve asthmatic symptoms.In
such instances treatment of the medical problemcan help to control
alcoholism.On the otherhand there are some practical issues which
include Drink refusal skills,anger control,financial
management,recreation and spirituality and handling negative mood
states.
2 The part which i would like to redo willbe prevention of
Substance use disorder.
Primary prevention
- Reduction of overprescribing by doctors
- Identification and treatment of family members who maybe
contributing to the drug abuse.
- Introduction of social changes which is likely to affect
drinking patterns .
- Other approaches to strengthen the individuals personal and
social skills to increase self esteem and resistance to peer
pressure.
- Health education to college students and the youth about the
dangers of drug abuse through the curriculum and mass media.
Secondary prevention
- Early detection and counselling
- Brief intervention in primary care.
- Motivational interviewing which involves providing feedback to
the patient on the personal risks that alcohol poses.
- Detoxification with benzodiazepines
Tertiary prevention
- Alcohol deterrant therapy.
- Teaching coping skills,behaviour counselling and supportive
psychotherapy.
