Nursing informatics is the use of nursing science and technology in improving the quality of care and patient outcomes. In this era of large amount of data, the nursing informatics competencies will helps the nurses to safely handle data and to improve practice. The use of nursing informatics not only enhances the knowledge and wisdom but also helps in various other issues like to tract and evaluate patient outcomes, assess workload and interventions, keep touch with patients, virtual teaching, learning and assessment associated with educational outcomes and also in research activities. One of the best example of use of nursing informatic in nursing profession is implementation of electronic health record (EHR).

The knowledge about nursing informatics will help the nurses to understand the patients care needs, to develop care plans,communicate patient information with other health personnels, to analyze staffing and budget reports. It updates the nurses current knowledge which enhances an appropriate decision making. The information provided through the use of nursing informatics is organized structured and is standardized which can be used worldwide by health personnel and the patient themselves.Therefore nurses should implement the nursing informatics in their practice as it will help to manage workload, make correct decisions, manage the vast data, easy accessibility to data and improve patient outcome. This ultimately results in improved work productivity and staff and patient satisfaction.
