Ways to Lead in an Era of Constant Change- 1 to 2 page, double spaced paper, Times New Roman 12, please share your thoughts to the following:
1. Describe a time when a change initiative at your company (or a previous one, or one you have researched) failed or was not as successful as it should have been?
2. Discuss the resistance to change factors that may have impacted the initiative's lack of success.
3. Describe ways leaders can use to overcome resistance to change.
1) The change initiative at my former company, Acme Incorporation called for replacing the current, slow and inefficient , inventory management system from manual to automatic by introducing ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). The change initiative however did not proved as successful as expected because it was introduced at an unfavourable time when employee turnover was high and no employee commitment was very low due to which it's implementation failed and employees did not keep up with this new technology haunting the manufacturing process to a very great extend for a long period of time.
2) The major factor which curbed the efficient utilization and use of ERP system was the employee resistance. Employees did not showed enough commitment and dedication to learn how to adjust or accomodate to the new inventory and supply system. The fear of loosing their specialisation and inability to cope up with the new technology caused fear and resistance towards the new system. Moreover the high turnover of employees added to the injury and uncertainty of continuing employees, thus even after implementation employees could not keep up with the new system for a considerable period of time. The lack of Success can also be attributed to lack of training which could have raised morale in employees.
3) Leaders first need to provide full support to the employees in coping up with change through establishing effective communication and proper training program to help them overcome their fear of unknown and uncertainty. Leaders need to provide full assistance to them to accomodate to the new technology or change. Moreover it is very critical to check on the emotions of employees to clear their doubts or confusions regarding the change. To ensure full support leaders should try to build trust among employees hy being transparent and true with them and assuring them of no loss of status or recognition to overcome the resistance to change.
