Identify the key components of the situation presented in the case study, using logic and rationale to answer the question(s) presented.
Discuss the various forms of communication that you would have with the patient, his wife, the physician, and any other staff.
Be detailed in explaining how you would resolve this issue.
Are there any other considerations to think about with this scenario?
Refer to the rubric – Case Study Paper for grading details.
It is not easy for any person to hear that he / she has diabetes. Diabetes is a disease that cannot be cured. It has to be taken care of every day. People who have diabetes must make some important changes in their lives. To stay healthy, they must learn how to monitor and control their blood sugar levels. People who don’t control their blood sugar levels can develop serious health problems, such as blindness, nerve damage, and kidney failure. But there are things you can do to help your loved one who has diabetes.
Teaching patients to take their prescribed medications correctly may be as important as the medication itself because, without a good understanding, patients may take it incorrectly, with poor outcomes.
1.Communication should begin on whether or not patient should be sustained by artificial means.
2. Since the patient himself has'nt decision making ability , his wife, with whom he has lived most of his life should be present.
3. Information whether family is ready to look after the patient if sustained on artificial means. Family should mentally be prepared for that.
4. Our goal to participate in the discussion is to make them undestand that their decision is between- sustance by artificial means or death by malnourishment, but appropriate would be sustance by artificial means.
