Some immigrants came willingly and some unwillingly. Discuss two (2) immigrants who came to America unwillingly. How were they forced to come to America? How did their voyage across the Atlantic differ from other immigrants? How were they treated upon arrival?
African Americans came to America unwillingly.
Different forces forced immigration to the US.The ancestors of the African American, needed workers to work on the plantation farms. European slaves ship ,for many centuries transported Africans from Africa to America. African slaves arrived on ships to America to be sold to plantation owners.
The Africans who were stolen from their homes were shipped to America. This trip across the Atlantic ocean was known as middle passage. The captured men ,women and children on the ship travelled in miserable condition. Upto thousand people had to travel with no place to even move. The deck had no ventilation and the people were suffocated.Food was less , people suffered diseases and there was violence and torture.
People who survived the middle passage were sold on auction when they arrived in the new country and they became the property of another person.
