Majority of the newcomers in America came from European countries where the didn't speak english. The principal origin of immigrants was eastern and southern Europe, like Russia, Italy, and Poland, countries different in language and culture from the U.S.. The "new immigrants" faced several difficulties in adjusting to life in U.S.
United States also faced difficulty in the absorbtion of new immigrants. Many immigrants select to settle in cities of America, where jobs had been located. Cities became crowded. City services failed to hold up with flow of new comers. Many immigrants did find the jobs, they worked in jobs which most of the native Americans will not take. Gradually immigrants were succesful in bettering their condition.
Administrative Progressives justified the growth of vocational
tracks through directing to the miniscule college population &
through announcing it as the effective means of as-similating new
immigrants in America & institutions. These high school
students essentially terminated before it began, for in the face of
growing social upset, that reformers trusted eroded the traditional
institutions of family and church. School was the final hope to
inculcate immigrants along the values of America.
