New York is a leisure land for immigrants. The leisure opportunities available in New York is one of the major reasons why it become the heaven for immigrants. The present New York is humiliating with the migrants , both internal and external migrants.The reason behind this large number if immigration is none other than the facilities and the leisure they enjoy. During the 1700s and 1800s a large number of migration happened. We can examine the leisure they had during that time differently and how it differ to men and women.

ENTERTAINMENT OF URBAN LIFE.

The city under the Statue of Liberty was one of the magnificent and growing city during that time. The early urbanization of the city is one of the main reason why many people from Europe, Mexico, and etc were migrated to the City. The City was growing rapidly during that time. This was enjoyed by both Male and female. But it was enjoyed more by men as during that time men were engaged more in jobs than women.

DRINKING AND SOCIALISATION.
This is one of the most common leisure enjoyed by the men. Men used to drink with his fellows during free time and holidays. During that time this was not familiar among women.

VISITING NEIGHBOURHOOD
Visiting neighbourhoid was one of the familiar activity among the immigrants than the native people. Women used to practice this as a leisure activity.

NIGHT LIFE OF THE CITY.
For most of the immigrants it was a new experience to spend nights on the street. Mostly men enjoyed this night life of the city by enjoying music and motion pictures.

SPORTS.
The popularity of the sports grew after the civil war in America. In the beginning the sporting activities such as public gymnasium, athletics, courts and field were allowed to middle class and and working class. Slowly it opened for all. These were mainly targeting men,however by the end of 19th century the importants of women were also rise in the sports.
