Private Security is an important industry that is growing and evolving. This private security system is not a new concept in terms of its functions. Currently, the history of public policing is practiced in America and other countries in which citizens came from countries that provides security as neighbourhood watchman during night and evening.

The professionals of both private security and public policing have same responsibilities and general duties. Some of the functions and duties include : command presence, observation powers, uniformed visibility etc. Some of the other major functions also includes regular duties such as patrols, writing reports, investigative duties etc. There are some differences in duties provided by public policing officers and private security officers , however, the scope of both systems are same.

There are some additional duties performed by public policing officers which are not carried by private police. The difference is the matter of law. For thebasis of certification, liability and oversight, the task of privcate police is to ensure protection while the public police is charged with enforecement.
