State 4 aseptic techniques which are used in microbiology practical.
Aseptic techniques are required in microbiology lab to control the opportunities for contamination of cultures by microorganisms from environment or contamination of environment by the microorganisms being handled.
There are many aseptic techniques used in microbiology lab.
4 of them are as follows :-
? Cleaning and disinfecting lab surfaces prior to use. Ethanol is recommended due to fast action (around 5 minutes).
?Effectively sterilizing inoculating loops (red hot heating) and other instruments/equipments that come in contact with the cultures or media. All items that come in contact with microorganisms must be sterilized before and after the each such exposure.
?It is recommended to wear gloves and wipe out hands with 70% ethanol before and after testing. Avoid breathing on cultures and instruments. Sterile glass or disposable plastic pipettes should be used only once.
?Limiting duration the cultures or media are exposed to air and also keeping Petri dishes closed whenever possible.
