Besides the XY system, are there other sex determination systems?
in animal there are 5 systems of sex determinations tha are:
1) XY sex determination system - this system is more common in mammals where XX is female and XY is male.
2) XO sex determination system - in this system, Y chromosome is absent and found in animals like grasshoppers where XX is female and XO is male.
3)ZW sex determination system - in this system, chromosome X and Y switched to Z and W. Z chromosome is same as X chromosome i.e. larger than other chromosome. it is found in animals like birds where ZW would be female and ZZ would be male
4) haplodiploidy sex determination system - in this system, when egg is fertilised, then diploid organism is formed that will become female and organism that become haploid due to unfertilised egg it will become male. found in animals like ants.
5) environmemntally dependent sex determination system - in this system, determination of sex depends on temperature. at higher temperature, developement is faster and female will develope. in colder temperature, developement is slower and male will develope.
