Evolution of plant trait – Which adaptation is most important to plant success? i. Consider these three adaptations: vascular tissue, seeds, flowers. From these three adaptations which one of these specific traits is the most important to the success as plants as a species on the planet? ii. Your explanation must include: what survival advantages each of the three adaptions lends to plants.
Vascular tissue adaption: These tissues transport water and nutrient and food in the plants. In algae this feature is absent. Algae is in the water and water and nutrient directly enter into it. On the land, water is below in the ground, and nutrients produced in leaf need to be delivered in all parts of the plant. The evolution of vascular tissue ensured that plants can grow on the land.
Seed adaption: The evolution of seeds decreased plant's dependence on water for reproduction. Seeds contain an embryo of the plant which can stay dormant until conditions are favorable when it grows into a diploid sporophyte. Seeds are transported by various ways like the wind, water, or by animals to encourage reproduction this dispersal reduce competition with the parent plant and help to spread species into newer areas.
Flowers adaptation: The evolution of flower adaption helps many plants make seeds to grow new plants. Some flowering plants use bright petals and sugar water called nectar to get insects to visit. Visiting insects help move pollen among flowers so seeds will form. Flowers also create genetic diversity in the plants making them better adapted for newer environment.
Now to answer your question, You can clearly see that seed adaption and flower adaption are important but are only required to plant species that are present on the land. And vascular tissue adaption is the adaption that made this thing possible( This made plant species move from water onto the land) So, this is the most important evolutionary adaption among three.
