. Why is evolution is one of the most important major themes of
life? How does it explain both of the following characteristics of
life on Earth?
the unity of life
the diversity of life
Life is continuously evolved for adapting their environment. Evolution is a major theme in adaptation of life on earth. Life evolved and created changes in its genome to adapt with respect to the outer environment. The environment on earth is not always suitable for life to survive. Hence continuous changes in structure as well as function in accordance with climate makes life more adaptive. Different evolution factor also played important role in the process of evolution. Natural selection, migration, mutation and genetic drift contributed to stabalize life on earth.
The unit of life and the diversity of life are two important characteristic of life. Cell is the basic unit of life on earth. Each of the organism on the planet is made up of cell. Life is started from unicellular organism. This type of organism have a single cell. Evolution leads to change the form from single cell to multiple cells. Specific types of cell organized to form a tissue, tissue is organized to form a systems and different systems forms an organ. Evolutionary forces leads to developed multicellular organism from unicellular.
Another characteristic of life on earth is a diversity. Evolutionary forces generated diversity. The cell has a functional unit of it, which regulates the life, the DNA. DNA has all the informations regarding the organism. Evolution leads to change in DNA or genome of organism which created diversity to survive. The diversity is generated by evolution. Evolution makes gene adaptive for particular environment.
