How could you explore the origin of the different types of blindness?
VISION: Vision is the result of light rays hitting the back of the eye or retina and then the optic nerve transmitting electrical signals to the brain.
BLINDNESS:Blindness occurs when an inadequate amount of lights hits the retina, or the information has not been delivered correctly to the brain.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BRAIN? Blindness occurs at varying levels of vision ability and sometimes occurs with different other conditions like cataract or glaucoma. The different form of blindness includes a)Complete blindness b) Color blindness and c) Night blindness.
COMPLETE BLINDNESS: This is characterized by a complete and total loss of vision. In complete blindness the condition is worse than 20/200 visual acuity in a normal eye. This further means, the person with normal vision can see an object at 200 feet and a person with impaired vision can see the object at a distance of 20 feet. According to a research study, the major cause for this blindness is considered to be diabetic which causes diabetic retinopathy ( destruction of retina) which leads to impaired vision.
COLOR BLINDNESS/ DYSCHROMATOPSIA: In this condition, there is a difficult in distinguishing the most common color form ( red -green) which commonly present at birth, caused by the presence of a defective gene on the X chromosome. Because men are more commonly affected than women by color blindness. Women have 2 X chromosomes and men have only one X chromosome, the presence of one bad chromosome is sufficient to cause color blindness in child at birth.
NIGHT BLINDNESS/ NYCTALOPIA: This characterized by a reduced ability to see in dim light or at night which results in impaired vision ( not complete vision). It occurs as a symptom of numerous congenital and inherited retinal diseases or as a result of vitamin A deficiency.
