The Data Protection law of Ghana was introduced for the protection of the data and privacy of the citizens of The Republic of Ghana in 2012, although the law came into full effect on 16 october 2012, the had already beed introduced in the parliament of The Republic of Ghana in 2010, which was then withdrawn to be revised, by the then minister of communication of Republic Of Ghana.
The Data Protection law of Ghana consists of 99 sections in total under various heading, the heading with respect to their sections are listed as follows:
Data Protection Commission from section 1 to 10
Administration, from section 11 to 13
Finances of the Commission, from section 14 to16
Application of principles of data protection, from section 17 to 34
Rights of data subjects and others, from section 35 to 36
Processing of special personal data, from section 37 to 45
Data protection register, from section 46 to 59
Exemptions, from section 60 to 74
Enforcement, from section 75 to 81
Records obtained under data subject's right of access, from section 82 to 83
Information provided to Commission, from section 84 to 85
Miscellaneous and general provisions, from section 86 to 99.
The act comes into effect when:
1. The Data controller is situated in The Rpeublic Of Ghana and the Data being processed is in the Republic Of Ghana.
2. The Data Processor is not situated in The Republic of Ghana, but uses the resources that have direct relation with The Repiblic of Ghana, like using the services and resources of data processor that is using business in The Republic of Ghana.
3. The concerning information if is either partly or wholly from the Republic of Ghana.

Although the law is in full effect in general circumstances there are some situation where the processing of the data is exempted from the law, where it relates to the following:
1. National Security under section 60
2. In relation to crime and taxation under section 61
3. Processing of personal Data for issues related to education, health and social work under section 61
4. Is prohibited unless required by the law.
