The ACA allows employees to make health insurance enrollment the default option (see page 296 of the Lee text). Do you think this is fair to employees?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Under the ACA ,which is Affordable Care Act of president Obama , also known as Obama care, some workers are to be auto-enrolled in health plan. The ACA makes health insurance enrollment the default option for employees which is not fair to employees because automatic enrollment ,would put people under coverage ,with limited benefits and high deductions. This automatic coverage  will put them to high costs if they happen to fall sick at any point of time. Enrolling healthy people automatically in such plans will make such coverage  costly and less affordable and at the same time unavailable to people who actually need coverage.Automatic enrollment force the employees in cover they do not want or may say they do not need.Automatic enrollment also leads to administrative problems as the employers need to identify employees who are full time and eligible for coverage. The employer deducts the premium from the employees salary and the employee cannot say he does not want to join the coverage.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has increased the share of population with health insurance. Some other observers suggest that this concern is overblown (Auerbach et al. 2013). The production is of primary care is changing in...
