The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has increased the share of population with health insurance. Most of the newly insured were reasonably healthy and viewed health insurance as too expensive, given its likely benefits. As a result, the ACA will primarily affect the demand for primary care services, and many anticipate a shortage of primary care physicians (Robeznieks 2013).
Some other observers suggest that this concern is overblown (Auerbach et al. 2013). The production is of primary care is changing in ways that shift its supply. One change is the rapid expansion of patient-centered medical homes, which emphasize a greater role for technology, physicians assistants, and nurse practitioners. Another change is the growth of nurse-managed clinics (of which MinuteClinic, discussed in Case 7.1, is an example). Both of these innovations reduce the number of physicians needed to provide primary care for a population.
Answer hte folllowing Discussion Questions:
*Set up a model of the demand and supply for primary care physicians. (It should have salary on the vertical axis and number of primary care physicians on the horizontal axis). Assuming that the production of primary care does not change (i.e., the supply curve does not shift), how do you expect the market equilibrium to change?
*How have the incomes of primary care physicians changed in the last few years? Are these changes consistent with your prediction? (You can get income data from Medscape Physician Compensation Reports).
*Are the changes in the incomes of primary care physicians consistent with the prediction of a shortage? That is, have they risen rapidly?
*If rental clinics and patients-centered medical home continue to expand, how will they affect the market equilibrium? Which curve would shift as a result-demand or supply?
Ans is E The ACA eliminates lifetime limits on total health care insurance payments by insurers.
Explanation: Earlier ther was a limit of $500,000 or $1,000,000, which is eliminated by ACA.,
According to me ACA should be taken positively in America as it supplements and balances the healthcare section by not only making weaker, underprivileged section of USA availing the most modern benefits in medical field, it also covers each and every American into it in the same felicity. The slogan “Quality, Affordable Health Care for all Americans” should be followed not only by USA but by other countries as well.
If we deeply analyse the law we would find that the rich and privileged section, the young and healthy section has to pay more and the poor and senior citizens have to pay less, who are more prone to major illnesses. Single person has to pay more than those who are married and
Having kids. This policy encourages everyone especially those who cannot afford high class medical facilities to be aware of their medical issues and get the treatment well in time at even low cost.
On a general basis penalty has been reduced, so those who are paying a bit more even they have not to pay more penalty. The benefits of fees, taxes and any new discovery in health field is equivalent to all.
As the policy is immediate its negatives can be avoided because it has been levied earliest possible.there can be people who may not meet the ten essential benefits, but they are the crowd which hails from young, healthy and rich. while the policy takes care of each and every American.
