MALARIA:-
- Malaria is a mosquito-borne disease caused by a protozoa
plasmodium, transmitted by female anopheles mosquito.
- it is characterized by fever with chills and rigor.
(a) ETIOLOGY:-
- malaria is caused by genes plasmodium.
- there are many species of plasmodium. In human malaria is caused
by these species-
P. Falciparum
P. Malariae
P. Ovale
P. Vivax
(b) PATHOGENESIS:-
(c) SIGN AND SYMPTOMS:-
- Incubation period- 7 to 15 days
- Uncomplicated malaria:-
fever with chills and rigor
headache
Body ache
Nausea and vomiting
Cold and hot stage(6-12 hour period
of cold and shivering alternating with fever
and headaches and then a stage
of sweating)
-Complicated Malaria:-
Cerebral malaria
Cardiovascular collapse
Kidney failure
Hypoglycemia
(d) DIAGNOSIS:-
- peripheral blood smear microscopy
- Rapid diagnostic tests
(e) TREATMENT:-
-Malaria Treatment depend upon type and severity of malaria.
-Artemisisnin based combination therapy
- Antimalarial drugs as quinine, primaquine,lumefantrine,
mefloquine, sulfadoxine and pyremethamine
