Discuss three kinds of clinical decision support and how do you think each is useful. What drawbacks, if any, do you see with each type?
Clinical decision support system is a health information technology system i.e design to provide physician and other health professional with clinical decision support i.e assistance with clinical decision making task . This helps the physician to interact with the CDSS to help to analyze and reach a diagnosis based on patients data.
KNOWLEDGE BASED CDSS
It consists of three parts -
1. Knowledge base - The process of knowledge Base creation is complex and complicated . It contains every risk faster to carry out in new lesion. It can be created through automated process. knowledge is acquired from external sources like books, magazines etc.
Uses -It will built the involvement of clinical domain expert with every activity of create edit and maintenance.
2. INFERENCE ENGINE -It is the main part of CDSS .It used knowledge from database integrated with the system .
Use -It controls the actions of the system and guide them with the best actions
For example-It will detect the condition to trigger the alert or conclusion to be displayed the diagnostic progress.
3.WORKING MEMORY- It is collection of patient data which is stored in a database which include patients age , name , etc. ,their problems and other information.
USES- It helps the physician to know the patient's history and diagnose the problem
NON KNOWLEDGE BASED CDSS
Apart from knowledge base there is non knowledge based CDSS . it does not use knowledge base data, rather it is trained from the relationship between symptoms, signs and diseases.
2types of non knowledge base
1. Artificial neutral network- it analyze the pattern of patient data to derive association between the symptoms and diagnose of patient.
2. Genetic Algorithm - it is a simple process of searching and simplifying and use the directed selection to achieve optimal CDSS result.
DRAWBACK OF CDSS
1. It is difficult in quantifying all the data
2 there may be system design failure
3 there is shifting of human roles which may cause problem in diagnose
4. There may be wrong or misleading CDS content
