The relation between goitre and hypothyroidism is both are a condition which occurs in the thyroid gland. In goitre the thyroid gland grows abnormally or overgrows. In hypothyroidism the thyroid secretes a low level of hormone.

Some of the nursing interventions for goitre are

• Encourage the patient to take medication as per order. Not to skip, overdose or underdose
• Provide psychological support because patient may feel depressed
• Provide bland and soft diet if patient has difficulty in swallowing during inflammation
• Monitor breathing pattern ,respiratory rate, saturation levels because they may experience difficulting breathing
• Provide iodine supplements in the diet
• Provide calm and quiet environment, soothing massage, evening luke warm bath to encourage sleeping
• Monitor for complications

Goitre in simple refers to either excess or decreased production of thyroid hormone which occurs mainly due to deficient iodine. Usually it is treated medically if symptoms deteroriate health condition leading to other complications surgical interventions are done to rectify it.
