Describe the steps that would be necessary to gain access to a formal organization for the purposes of doing field research. (Do not just list the steps, you need to describe what each is and what it entails)
The steps that are important for gaining access to a formal organization are stated as under:
1. Identifying the key resource person: From a variety of employees working in an organization, one must selectively identity the individual with whom further correspondence for research can be established. This person is usually a figure of authority in the organization.
2. Contacting the key resource person: This step involves establishing contact with the key resource person. There are many ways to do so, such as a face to face meeting, phone call or email. Some ways to obtain the key resource person’s contact details are by asking mutual contacts, via the organisations website etc.
3. Sharing the research proposal: After the initial level of contact is made, the next step involves sharing a detailed plan of the study with the resource person.
4. Getting approval: After the plan is shared, one must wait to get formal acceptance from the organisation to carry out the research.
