Are hiring practices fundamentally flawed? Describe the process and steps that are necessary to attract, screen, interview and onboard today’s millennial?
Yes, hiring practices are fundamentally flawed. There are biases regarding the candidates appearing for the post. Enough time is not granted to evaluate each and every candidate. Some candidates are rejected based on their behavior which may be, however, right for the other employer.
There are the following steps or process can be taken into consideration in order to attract, screen, interview, and take Millenials onboard:
1. The advertisement for the vacant positions should be given in the leading newspaper. Social media can also be used to reach prospective Millennials. Job portals are also the right methods.
2. Enough time should be given to reach the news of hiring to potential candidates. It should not be in a hurry that the news does not reach the right candidate and the company has to compromise with mediocre talent.
3. Each and every application should be viewed carefully. No single application should be rejected because of boredom or not having the willingness to go through more profiles.
4. Social media profiles of the candidates can also be checked whether they are affiliated in any activity that is against the organizational culture.
5. The interview should be conducted by a professional. The interview should be long enough to understand every candidate on the scale of their education, experience, mental state, and behavior.
6. The interviewer should not have any bias or prejudice.
7. The candidate should be taken on board as soon as possible after selection. Sometimes, the candidates are hired by other employers as the candidates have given multiple interviews
8. The process of taking the new joinee on board should be smooth. It should be followed by an orientation so that new joinee does not feel alien in the organization.
