2. Why is workplace rudeness contagious and that incivility is even worse where the bulk of communication is electronic. How would you stop workplace rudeness?
3. Assume you are an hourly employee, would you respond to late night e mails from your boss? Why or why not? Do you believe it is appropriate behavior of your boss. Would you answers differ if you were a salaried employee in a management position. Why or why not?
Answer(2): Rudeness is contagious! Yes, It is true. Everything comes under law and legislation but there is no rule for rudeness. It is in people's behaviour. Rudeness at workplace creates dissatisfaction and demotivation. Consequences of rudeness are very dangerous. Incivility in electronic communication is mostly seen nowadays. People have less time to talk to each other personally. Face to face communication is effective communication but when it comes to electronic communication via emails or phone, people get more aggressive in writing the emails, they sometimes write those phrases and words that could heart someone. Incivil communication takes less time but it has a strong impact.
Answer(3): If I am an hourly employee, I will not respond to late night emails from my bos until it is very important and on high priority basis. I work for hours and I am paid for hours only. I am not paid extra for working extra. I have my own personal commitments that I have to take care after my office hours are over. I have to make work life balance in my life. I have my own self respect so I will not even bother to check the emails if I am an hourly employee. I think, it is not appropriate behaviour of my boss.
If I am salaried employee in the management, I may look into it. Firstly I will see that boss wants the reply immediately or not. It may be possible that my boss sends email just like that and it is not urgent to reply him back then I will not respond. If the email is on high priority basis, I will respond to that email if it is not too late night. I will also say to my boss in polite way that I have a family and other commitments and responsibilities so it is difficult to respond the emails after office is over.
