What is the difference between a study model and a study cast? Name types of gypsum products and their use in dentistry.
What are their differences? (Plaster and stone)
Study models are important diagnostic records in dental
practice, it is a diagnostic cast of an impression of dental arches
that accurate player reproduction of the teeth and their soft
tissues that make occlusion for the study and dentition in three
dimensions. It is used to plan treatment and observe treatment

study cast in dentistry as a cast model of a person teeth dentist
use this as a guide for the application of correction. the
diagnostic casts is referred to as study models. it is more
accurate than the study model.
gypsum products are fine powders that is mixed with water to make a
fluid mass that can be shaped and poured it become harden and form
a rigid stable mass. gypsum products made from gypsum rock that is
mixed, ground into a fine powder. it is proceeded by heating and
make various products.
there are three types of gypsum products plaster, stone, and
improved or high strength stone. these three products are
chemically calcium sulfate hemihydrate.
Gypsum Plater used to form molds for the casting of dental
presentations, used in auxiliary materials and dental
prosthesis.
gypsum stone: it is more expensive than plaster. in making casts
for diagnostic purposes and for denture construction it is
useful.
Improve or high strength stone: it is used for mainly making casts
or dies for a crown, bridge, inlay fabrication. high strength stone
method of calcination results in powder particles it is very dense,
cuboidal in shape with the reduced surface area.
Plaster: Heating the gypsum powder is an open container as a part
of the water of crystallization from crystal and shatters the
crystal. it causes irregular particle plaster that is weak. it is
less expensive. it combines porous. it is white in color due to
beta hemihydrate or type II.
Stone: It is controlled calcination under steam pressure in a
closed container. calcination released slowly from a crystal that
is regular, uniform in shape. it is yellow in color due to
alpha-hemihydrate type II stone.
