Plant Physiology. Plants, like all organisms, need to be able to respond to external signals or stimuli.
(A) What are some of the abiotic and biotic factors to
which plants respond? In general terms, how do plants sense and
respond to such signals? Consider what is actually happening at the
cellular and molecular scale to induce a response based on a
stimulus. (Again, you don’t need to describe a specific stimulus or
response here, just in general how a stimulus can induce a response
in plants.)
-
(B) Now choose one specific stimulus involved in a
tropism or photoperiodic response in plants and describe
specifically what the response entails and how exactly the stimulus
leads to the response. Consider what hormones or proteins are
involved and how they help induce the particular
response.
