It must be ensured that the specimen acts as the identifier for the entire species
No strain specific characteristic must be used for identification because that feature might not be present in other strains of same species
Any such additional features are called paratypes and they must also be identified by a a taxonomist

2. A description of the new species is necessary

The new species must be defined on various parameters like behaviour, anatomy, morphology, etc
The information regarding the origin of the holotypes and paratypes must be provided
A new name is then assigned to it : the genus and the species

3. Publishing of the data in open domain

The new data must be published in a form that is accessible worldwide
The advent of information era has made this process area because publishing in electronic/digital form of the data is also permissible
