For years, the young Taco Prince knew he would one day be forced to battle his rival, the Burrito known as “Happy Dave, The Destroyer of Worlds”, to see who would become ruler of Corn Tortilla Mountain. And that day had finally arrived. As the challenger to the throne, Dave, the burrito, was required to wait at the end of a beam suspended above a lake of molten Chile Con Queso cheese dip. The Taco Prince was prepared to walk out onto the beam and face his nemesis. The 6 meter long beam has a mass of 100 kg, the Taco Prince’s mass is 40 kg (he’s a really big Taco), and the burrito’s mass is 50 kg (including the tomato wedge he’s using as a weapon). Oh, and for some reason Jon is hanging from the beam too. His mass is 70 kg, and he’s hanging from a spot 3.5 meters from the left end, where the beam attaches loosely to a wall. A cable attaches 0.50 meters in from the right end of the beam, angled as shown. a. If the cable will snap once the tension reaches 1,800 Newtons, how close to the end of the beam can the Taco Prince safely go, assuming Dave stays where he is? b. Determine the magnitude of the force that the wall exerts on the beam. Note that it may be easier to first treat it as a separate horizontal and vertical force, and then find the magnitude.
