Explain (Sugary drink tax/soda tax):
Explain (Mammography):
Sugary drink tax/Soda Tax is an example of primary level of prevention
Mammography is an example of secondary level of prevention
As we know, primary level of prevention has a goal to prevent a disease or injury before occurence.Sugary Drink tax/ Soda Tax has a inverse relation with the number of sales of such sugary drink. That is, the higher the tax, the lower the amount of sugary drinks sold. The lessening of the number of drinks sold will help prevent many diseases such as obesity, diabetes etc. Hence, tax on a sugary drink is an example of primary level of prevention.
{Note: From a point of view, it can be considered as a tertiary level of prevention, as it may also help in soften the impact of ongoing diseases such as diabetes, which are lifelong but generally, it is viewed as a primary level of prevention.)
Secondary levels of prevention are implemented with the intention of reducing the impact of a disease or injury that already exists. Mammograpms are used to detect breast cancer, which can be detected only after it already occurs in the body, and thereby, we aim to reduce the impact of such breast cancer. Hence, mammograms are an example of secondary level of prevention.
