Considering the vertices of the "iron triangle" of healthcare — cost, quality, and access as described by Lehman — how will healthcare policy and reform successfully address one without compromising the other(s)?
The three aspects of health care are cost, quality and acesss, which is interdependent with one another .They are tightly locked within the health care of the triangle.Improvement in any of the two vertices necessarily results in the worsening of the other two vertices. It is difficult to create a healthy balance between the three vertices. The patient protection and affordable care act (PPACA) main aim is to disrupt this paradox which aim to increase acess and improve quality and at the same time lowers the cost. The PPACA eorks through four mechanisms by making it mandatory for all Americans to obtain health insurance or else they have to pay a tax, initiatives to provide medicaid to those belonging to lower income group,Employers who have more than 50 employees working under the firm to provide health insurance to their workers or elae pay fine and also take actions to prevent the insurers from getting coverage based on pre existing medical conditions. Thus if we could institute these mechanisms into the health care policy,we do need to compromise with any of the health care vertices.
