Answer:
◆ Nasal trumpet: 1. Nasal trumpet is an nasopharyngeal airway (a medical device) consists of a hollow tube that is made to be inserted into the nasal passageway to keep safe an open airway.
2. It is mainly used as an non-invasive method to provide breathing support to the patients with intact gag reflex, airway obstruction or blockage, etc.
◆ How nasal trumpet is different from an oral pharyngeal airway: 1. Nasal trumpet is different from an oral pharyngeal airway because nasal trumpet can be used in the condition of gag reflex or airway obstruction or blockage but oral pharyngeal airway can be used only for the unconscious patients as it causes gag reflexes in conscious patients.
2. As it is proved that nasal trumpet prevents gag reflexes and oral pharyngeal airway stimulates gag reflexes.
3. Nasal trumpet is also known as nasopharyngeal airway and oral pharyngeal airway is also known as oropharyngeal airway or Guedel airway.
4. The contraindications of nasal trumpet are nasotracheal intubation, facial trauma, skull fractures etc. and contraindications of oral pharyngeal airway are conscious patient, blockage or obstruction due to any foreign body of the airway etc.
