There is an order for Humulin R U-100 8 units and Humulin N U-100 15 units sub q a.c.

a. What are the steps to draw up the two insulins?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer: when we have order to give two insulin together for example insulin R and insulin N then follow the following steps to draw two insulin together:

  • Wash hands
  • Inspect the regular insulin for it's appearance and clarity. Whether there is any change or not.
  • Gently rotate the insulin N vial in palms to mix well.
  • Clean the top of vial of both insulin.
  • First inject the 15 unit air into insulin N vial as this is intermediate insulin. Insulin N is cloudy in appearance.
  • Then inject the 8 units air into insulin R vial. Insulin R is regular insulin and clear in appearance.
  • Then draw the 8 units insulin from insulin R vial.
  • After drawing insulin from insulin R vial draw the insulin N From vial 15 units. No need to inject air as we have already pushed the air just draw the insulin.
  • This way we can draw two different insulin together without mixing them

If not explain why and explicitly define an arbitrage strategy (you have to give details of the arbitrage strategy)
