Solutions

Expert Solution

1. Novolin N NPH U-100 insulin to be taken upto = 33 units

Humilin R U-100 insulin should be taken upt= 12 units

Novolin is an intermediate acting insulin and Humilin R is a short acting insulin. The combination of the both short acting gives sudden control of elevated blood sugar and the other intermediate acting insulin maintains the blood glucose level at a range.

2.The insulin that is appropriate for taking the medicine is 1/2 cubic centimeters syringe with 50 units have to be taken . Because the total amount of insulin is 33 + 12 = 45 units.

3.Humilin is drawn first into the syringe .When we are mixing the regular insulin along with any other type of insulin, then we must make sure that we always takes the regular insulin into the syringe first. It is said because the rapid acting insulin or the short acting regular insulin is to be drawn firstly into the syringe and then followingly the intermediate acting novolin N should be taken. This is because to prevent the contamination of NPH insulin by the regular insulin. The contamination of the NPH insulin causes the reduction in its action.

The rapidly acting or the humilin can be taken from the vial firstly 12 units and using the same syringe remove the novolin R from the other vial 33 units is taken. This facilitates the proper mixing of insulin.
