Why are physicians credentialed under formal peer review and board approval? Would you consider expanding either formal review or board approval to other professionals, such as nurses?
Credentialing means verification of education, training experience , and the licence to practice .
Yes, I would like to expand the credentialing to other professionals like nurses because not only doctors but other health care professionals like nurses ,physiotherapist, dieticians etc are involved in patient care.We are dealing with human lifes ,who have many relations to execute for example- patient might be a father, mother, son ,or daughter etc. When we are dealing with them we should follow the ethical principles and ensure safety to there life as we are accountable for it. If the health care professional who is dealing with the patient doesn't have the knowledge of his skills then there higher chances of harm to the patient either it is a doctor, nurse,or physical therapist etc.
Here credentialing plays a major role as this will help in assessing the knowledge , documents and licence of the new staff before there are recruited. Verification of the documents ,the training certificate, the licence must be strictly done to avoid any loop holes. It will ensure a patient centred quality care.
