The U.S. health care system is massive and complex compared to other countries with universal health care. US healthcare system can gradually developed from a serious health issues occurred from past. Due to this reasons the way it setup and the way it operates is complex in many situations. The health care system was present in USA was managed by both government and private sectors (largely depends on private sector). The U.S. has more expenses when it comes to health care since they expand economically to social services and modern and expensive technologies compare to countries with universal health care. “Centrally controlled health care systems are less complex and less costly than the U.S. health care system. The United States has a large private infrastructure in which hospitals and physician clinics are private businesses that are independent of the government. Nevertheless, the federal and state governments in the United States play an important role in health care delivery. They determine public-sector expenditures and reimbursement rates for services provided to Medicaid and Medicare patients.” (Shi & Singh, 2015). Therefore, when it comes to the health care in the U.S. some might say that because the investment this country makes to its health care system it could be the best based on the technology and research used to benefit all.

The three main problems that exist in the US with respect to the healthcare system relate to access, cost and value. The possible solutions to these are proposed below:

1. Access: Improving access to healthcare would involve ensuring that:?

  • There is health insurance coverage for all individuals to allow them to gain an entry and an equal opportunity in the healthcare system of the country.
  • There are provisions wherein people have a regular and ongoing source of care, that is, a facility that is reliable, available and consistent.
  • Timeliness is met when it comes to providing treatment and any sources of delay are adequately dealt with.

2. Cost: To deal with increasing costs, the following measures are important:

  • Reducing administrative costs incurred by insurance companies.
  • Ensuring uniformity in the services offered by insurance companies in order to achieve economies of scale.
  • Offering rebate to enrollees in cases where in the insurance companies spend less than 80 percent of their money on healthcare.
  • Increasing the quality of screening procedures and measures to check against insurance fraud.
  • Mandating insurance companies to make valid justifications to the public when they decide to raise the insurance cost.

3. For the purpose of improving quality, the following measures are suggested:

  • Performance of the healthcare system should be continuously measured and monitored in order to look for pitfalls and possible areas of improvement.
  • Patient representatives should be engaged in important decision making processes in order to incorporate their feedback.
