Why is bereavement an important part of the healing process
Bereavement is a mourning state of an individual after death of a family member or loved one. People normally react to situation or event that happened in his life. The person shows many signs and symptoms of physical and emotions social and behavioral. After a death, the person enters a stage of shock and disbelief regarding an event after that bereavement process started to heal the person
Stages of grieving process:
1. Person is Understanding reality of the loss 2. Patient is showing behavioral symptoms 3. The physiological symptoms of grief may chance to new learning by the action on ACTH, cortisol, nor epinephrine
Understanding the reality of loss: in which cognitive related changes occur first stage: denial, shock and disbelief and it may last for hours to few weeks. In second stage, the person experience physical symptoms and emotions symptoms such as decreased appetite, crying. In their stage, it is stage of return to normal well being.
Physiological symptoms may be results from changes in the cardiorespirtaory such as breathing difficulty, chest pain, and gastrointestinal changes such as decreased appetite. Psychological symptoms such as loneliness, social withdrawal, depressed, blaming self and others for loss, angry. Behavioral symptoms such as memory loss, apathy, crying
Hormones play a vital role in the healing process. Nor epinephrine plays a role of fight or flight in the case of anger and fear. Nor epinephrine controls of breath and improve memory. Cortisol plays a role in the new learning of experiences and adaptive role. by these process, Bereavement helps the person to accept death as it is naturally occurring to everyone and it is inevitable. It helps to coping ability to challenge the loss
