The ongoing protest and the matter of Black lives matter can be
understood from various sociological perspectives.
- Social learning theory will illustrate how people learn about
race and how the culture builds up the understanding of
discrimination. The culture tells about the ongoing stereotypes,
prejudice, and discrimination towards a certain race. Some people
learn theses through observing others and some learn through the
influence of media or education. The treatment with George Floyd
comes from the notion that police department has on a particular
racial community. This notion later rolled out to be showcase of
undesirable behaviors. Many people have come out to protest by
seeing everyone else. They felt the need to raise their voice and
make their country better.
- Strain theories talk about the conception that is built upon
the lower privileged group. 'The particular race would only commit
crime because it is inferior or they are poor'. Strain theory
creates a false image about a certain community and thinks that
people from that community are committing the crime in order to
overcome their economical difficulties. Protest and Black lives
matter are against this theory.
