Do you believe that America’s entry into the First World War was justifiable and reasonable under the circumstances? Did President Wilson make a convincing case for war during his speech in 1917? Why or why not? Do you believe that free speech limits during the conflict were needed?
Yes, America entry into World War I was justifieable as Germany started to attack neutral ships of America. British gave the president Wilson Zimmerman telegram that was about the joining of Mexico against USA for war and attacking of US submarines. It lead to the outrage in people and they were demanding war against Germany.
President Wilson made a convincing case on April 2 , 1917.. He cited German's violation of pledge to suspend unrestricted submarine warfare in North Atlantic and Mediterrenian. Also, they attempted to get Mexico merged for war with USA. USA senate approved war against Germany on April 4,1917. And hence Dec, 1917 was the day when America started war with Germany-Austria-Hungary.
Free speech limits during conflicts were needed. Wilson was not on his words. In his reelection campaign he said he will keep America out of the war, so people voted for him but he declared war against Germany after 2-3 months of Election, that was not fair.
