Coronary artery disease is one of the leading cause of death in Australia. For old age people it is more common beacause of many risk factors. The coronary arteries are the blood vessels that supplies blood to the heart. But in this, a fatty plaque formation obstructs the blood flow to the heart that is called atherosclerosis. It is very difficult to diagnose wntil the patient is having chest pain. After anginal pain and a heart attack it can be diagnosed by ECG, echocardiogram and the blood tests. There are modifiable and non modifiable risk factors. Modifiable are those that one can change such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, smoking,no physical activity etc. But non modifiable are male sex, family history etc. In Australia sedentary lifestyle and smoking habit is very much common in old age people so they are more pron for getting CAD. the treatment strategy includes medications like anti anginal drugs, warfarin, betablockers, ace inhibitors etc. But in severe cases where there was late diagnosis, surgeries like stent placement, CABG(coronary artery bypass graft) has to be performed.
