2)Whole grains high in viscous fibre (oats, barley) decrease serum low density lipoproteins , cholesterol and blood pressure and improve glucose and insulin response.
3)Grains high in insoluble fiber (wheat) moderately lower glucose and blood pressure but also have a probiotic effects.
4)most of the grain products consumed in the USA are highly refined ; the brand (outer layer) and germ( inner layer )are separated from the starchy endosperm( middle layer )during milling, which leads to the loss of many nutrients and fibre.
