        Diabetes is a chronic disease that can lead to blindness, kidney failure, cardiac disease or loss of limbs which requires adequate attention and nursing care.This is possible through various educational programs. It is the responsibility of the nurse to maintain good relation with the patient to provide quality care.

       The nurse plays a vital role in hospital or in school to to improve the quality of training a diabetic patient receives.The patient should be provided with informations and instructions regarging diabetes,medications,equipments and diet. Sometimes in case of juvenile diabetis, the parents of the child should be educated to provide effective treatment.`

       The terms associated with diabetic nursing care are as follows:

1) Hyperglycemia: is a condition in which there will be excess amount of glucose collection in blood.

2) Hypoglycemia: ia a condition in which less amount of glucose in the blood.

3) Insulin is a hormone which is essential to initiate the metabolism of glucose in blood.

4) Diabetic ketoacidosis: occurs when there is no adequate amount of insulin, ketones are released when body breakes down the fat which makes the blood acidic.

5) Oral glucose tolerance test: measures the glucose level over a period of 3 hours after consumption of glucose mixture.
