On an average, self esteem is seen higher during childhood, then decreases during adolescence, kept on incresing throughout adulthood and then sharply decreases during old age. Speaking relatively, the individuals who have attained some big achievements at some point of time has high self esteem at other point of time as well. Self esteem is a matter of past achievements which grows with time if the person keeps on doing some great impactful work.
During early childhood, there is little knowledge of self, mind and body which makes the mind inquisitive of knowing these things. But as the person enters into his/her puberty, the confusions related to self starts to grow and the self esteem goes down. But with time when the person has attained enough knowledge of himself and the external world, he hs little fears now. Also this is the stage of life when he is most strong compared to other time points. His sef esteem grows exponentially and as he enters into to old age, he becomes weak, less valuable to this society. As a result of which his self esteem goes down sharply.
