Report on a patient experiencing a seizure.
Include the following aspects in the discussion:
A seizure is classified under neurological disorders. It is a sudden electrical impulses occurred in the brain which can cause many physical and psychological symptoms. If the person has the tendency to have recurrent seizures then it is called epilepsy.
Depending on the signs and symptoms srizures can be classified into -
Generalized seizure-seizure-it affect both sides of brain
1.absence seizure- it cause rapid blinking eye movements or sometimes starring at something for sometime.
2.tonic clonic seizure-also called grandmal seizures. Causes- shouting, fall on ground, teeth biting, loss of consciousness etc
Focal seizures- it affect one area of brain.
1.simple focal- affect one small part of brain. Can cause muscle twitching, change in sensation etc.
2.complex focal- leave a person confused for sometime.
Tonic means muscle stiffness and clonic means jerking movements.
Treatment strategy include anti convulsant medications such as phenytoin sodium, valproic acid, carbamezapine etc can be used to stop seizures. Sedatives are also used for the clients afterwards.
Other ways of treatment strategy include vagus nerve stimulation and resresponsive neuro stimulation. Among surgeries resection surgery can be done here the part of the brain that is causing the seizure is removed by the surgeon.
