In Smurfs, dwarf (T) is dominant to tall (t), pink (B) is dominant to blue (b), and happy (G) is dominant to gloomy (g). All loci are autosomal and not linked. The phenotypes of parents and their progeny are given for several crosses below. Determine the most likely genotypes for each parent and write them in the appropriate spaces below. Note that the parents may not be pure breeding.

Expert Solution

Here it is noted that the parents may not be pure breeding, which means that the organism must not be homozygous for every trait. That is both alleles which represent a particular trait must be different.

Female parental genotype is TtbbGg. It is because, the famale parent is dwarf. Dwarfness is a dominant trait. so genotype can be either TT or Tt. Since, the offsprings produced are both tall and dwarf and their male parent is Tall (tt), the female parent can only be Tt. for the trait height. As blue color is a recessive trait, genotype can be only bb. Happyness is dominant to gloomy. So, happy can be either GG or Gg. But both happy and gloomy offsprings are produced and since their male parent is gloomy, female genotype for happy can be only Gg (heterozygous condition).

Male parental genotype is ttBBgg. It is because, here tallness and gloomy are recessive traits and therefore the genotype can be only tt and gg respectively. Pink color is a dominant trait and genotype can be BBor Bb. But as only offsprings of only pink color are formed and their female parent has blue color which is recessive, the genotype of male parent for color can be only BB.

Female height locus : Tt

Female color locus : bb

Female disposition locus : Gg

Male height locus : tt

Male color locus : BB

Male disposition locus : gg

(T) represents tall and (t) represents dwarf stem lengths in a plant. There is a breeding between two heterogygous tall plants ( Tt * Tt). This results in 75 percent being tall and 25 percent being dwarf. If 4 plants grew up during this breeding, it is possible for all the offspring to be all dwarfs? I want to know if there is a chance they all could all be dwarfs, even if it is very rare.
