  1. In pea plants, tall (T) is dominant over short (t). What are the genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring of a cross between a TT and a tt plant?

Genotype____________               Phenotype___________

Solutions

Expert Solution

TT genotype (homozygous ) is responsible for phenotypically tall pea plant .

And T is dominant over t allele hence also  Tt (heterozygous ) genotype is responsible for tall pea plant .

And only homozygous tt genotype is responsible for phenotypically short pea plant.

Here a cross occurs between homozygous TT and homozygous tt

Gamets from TT will be T and gamets from tt will be  t

T( gamets from long plant)   T (gamets from long plant)
t (gamet from short plant) Tt (heterozygous, tall plant) Tt (heterozygous, tall plant)
t ( gamet from short plant )   Tt (heterozygous, tall plant) Tt (heterozygous, tall plant)

The genotypes of all the offspring are Tt (heterozygous )

And the phenotypes of all the offspring will be tall

( as T is dominant over t allele hence heterozygous Tt condition will also express tall phenotypic charecter
